Post-Conflict Reconstruction in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)
(Policy Brief No. 4)

This latest CCR policy brief is based on a policy advisory group meeting, held on 19-20 April 2010, in response to a request from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Secretariat in Botswana, to assess the challenges of post-conflict reconstruction in the DRC. The report discusses strategic mechanisms for enhancing the effectiveness of the Congolese government, SADC, civil society, the United Nations, and the international community, in consolidating peace and security in the DRC.

Peacebuilding in Post-Cold War Africa: Problems, Progress, and Prospects

This CCR policy brief discusses the interplay between local, regional and global forces in relation to peacebuilding challenges in Africa. Based on a research and policy seminar on the theme "Peacebuilding in Africa", held on 25-28 August 2009 in Gaborone, Botswana, the report focuses on six key themes: the theory and practice of peacebuilding in Africa; strengthening the security sector; justice and human rights; gender and peacebuilding; pan-African institutions; and global institutions and ideologies.

The report is based on a policy advisory group meeting held in Maputo, Mozambique, from 31 October - 1 November 2007, which drew on the expertise of both African and European policymakers, civil society activists and scholars.
