Mediation and Training Services Project

The Mediation and Training Services Project (MTS) acts as an independent third-party mediator and facilitator at the request of parties in conflict, and provides training in facilitation, mediation and other conflict resolution skills.

The primary goal of MTS is to contribute to the management and resolution of significant political community conflict in the Western Cape, and to the prevention and resolution of violent conflict in particular through mediation, conflict resolution training and capacity-building activities.

The three key objectives of MTS are:

  • To contribute to building conflict resolution capacity in government departments and designing alternative dispute resolution systems;
  • To provide direct, independent third-party mediation in community, political and institutional conflict;
  • To contribute to efforts that build tolerance among people living in southern Africa.

The project's three focus areas are:

  • Violence in school communities;
  • Xenophobia and Strengthening Communities;
  • Local Government.

Types of interventions include responding to diversity conflicts with refugee communities, workplace disputes, school-based violence, school governance, and service delivery conflicts.
