The Policy Development and Research Project (PDR)

The Policy Development and Research project focuses on strengthening the African Union and Regional Economic Communities (RECs) such as the Southern African Development Community; the Economic Community of West African States; the Intergovernmental Authority on Development; and the Economic Community of Central African States.

The PDR project convenes policy advisory group meetings in Africa with about 20-25 participants each. CCR also organises policy seminars with about 60 participants, which focus on the following PDR research areas:

  • Southern Africa's Peacebuilding Challenges;
  • Post-conflict Peacebuilding: the AU, the UN, and Civil Society;
  • HIV/AIDS and Post-conflict Societies; and
  • Peacebuilding: Africa and the European Union.

CCR's policy research between 2004 and 2008 focused on:

  • South Africa's role in Africa;
  • The UN's role in Africa;
  • The relationship between the African Union (AU) and the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD); and
  • HIV/AIDS and security.
